[VIDEO] FuelTech Sets a New World Record for Horsepower on the C8 Corvette

[VIDEO] Fuel Tech Sets New World Horsepower Record for the C8 Corvette

We’ve featured the gents from FuelTech previously who have been working on their C8 Corvette for about a year now. FuelTech uses port injection fuel delivery through a custom LT2 intake manifold and a dedicated fuel cell and engine management system to get around the stock C8 Corvette’s encrypted ECU to control their innovative twin-turbo set-up.

Our previous video from them showed their own 2020 Corvette putting out 754 horsepower late last year. Now they are back and have claimed the world record for horsepower on a C8 Corvette with a dyno run of 1075 RWHP. The previous high horsepower benchmark belonged to Emilia Hartford and her twin-turbo Corvette, which set the mark at 1,022 rwhp.

[VIDEO] FuelTech Sets a New World Record for Horsepower on the C8 Corvette

FuelTech’s founder Anderson Dick explains that they were limited in their previous set-up to around 750 hp and 4 psi of boost due to the C8’s stock clutch which would start slipping at those power levels. That’s something we saw previously with the early twin-turbo builds from Late Model Racecraft and Emelia Hartford. A Dodson clutch upgrade from Cicio Performance was performed and with the increase in the clutch disc count and better friction material, FuelTech was able to increase the boost to 21 psi which resulted in a dyno of 1,075 whp and 888 lb-ft of torque.

As part of the video, Anderson also shows off the FT600 engine management system that was integrated into the Corvette’s cup holders. The unit provides an easy-to-read interface showing the car’s RPM, MAP, and dual O2 sensor readings, and it provides a number of customization features at just a touch of a button.

She doesn’t share any new information, but Supercar Blondie, with her pink-tinted blonde hair and super-cool British accent, still manages to make her review of the new mid-engine Corvette worth watching to serious enthusiasts.

In fact, her review has garnered nearly 700,000 views, thanks no doubt to some of her nearly 6 million subscribers on YouTube.

Supercar Blondie reports that she had trouble getting a test car from General Motors, thanks to the insane demand for the C8 Stingray, but was finally able to procure a Sebring Orange example thanks to her friends at Superior Car Rental in Dubai.

She points out all the features of the car that Corvette fans have known for months, but does offer favorable opinions of many features, including all the storage space in the front and rear “boots” as she calls it, the “very cool” supercar looks, the “super cool” squircle steering wheel, the naturally aspirated 495 horsepower engine, and the “insane” starting price of $60,000. In the Dubai market, however, the car is going for double that, though she says you’re still getting quite a car even at that price.

On the negative side, she doesn’t think the “lo-o-o-o-o-ng” line of buttons on the center console is very intuitive to users though she still likes the look, says she and her team found the bucket seats to be super uncomfortable and complains that the stalk controls on the steering wheel are placed out of reach of normal hand position.

Overall, though, she comes away with a favorable impression of the new Stingray. “I like a mid-engine sports car,” she says. “so for me I’m loving the new look of the Corvette.”

[VIDEO] This C8 Corvette Model is Carved Entirely from a Block of Wood

[VIDEO] This C8 Corvette Model is Carved Entirely from a Block of Wood

We’ve seen bears, alligators, and other critters chopped out of wood, but our favorite such artistic endeavor has to be this wooden C8 Corvette that features several realistic features.

The woodworking artist behind this work of art remains anonymous, but fortunately for Corvette enthusiasts, he does post his work on a YouTube channel called Woodworking Art.

In this entertaining nine-minute video, you get an idea of just how much tedious work goes into such a creation.

[VIDEO] This C8 Corvette Model is Carved Entirely from a Block of Wood

The artist says the wooden car came about after a request by a friend to make a C8, coming on the heels of two other impressive vehicles he had already done – a Cadillac presidential limousine and a 2021 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition.

When we first started watching the video, we didn’t know how far the artist would be willing to go to make the car realistic. Let’s just say he went the distance, with major attention to detail.

Starting with a rectangular block of wood, he traces an outline of the exterior shape, then proceeds to use a variety of tools to slowly cut, chop, and chisel his way to the finished product. He may have traced the outline, but it’s definitely a talent to keep fine-tuning the wood to make it look very much like a real Stingray.

That includes a steering wheel and four tires that actually turn, a removable roof panel that even stores in the rear trunk, a see-through panel over the engine, and opening doors and frunk. We were amazed at how he was even able to make tread patterns on the tires, the red-painted calipers, and the spokes on the wheels, not to mention the intricate taillights and rear vents.

Asking an internet user to give up nine minutes of his life is a big ask, but we highly recommend watching the way this craftsman plies his trade. After all he took a month and 10 days to create this C8 Corvette.

[VIDEO] Here are the Cars that Rick Treworgy of Muscle Car City Museum Decided to Keep

[VIDEO] Here are the Cars that Rick Treworgy of Muscle Car City Museum Decided to Keep

Ever since Rick Treworgy closed his Muscle Car City Museum in Florida and sold some 200 of the vehicles at a special Mecum Auction in January for a whopping $18 million, we’ve wondered which cars he just couldn’t bear to part with.

Thanks to Wade Kawasaki’s Car Guy Adventures on YouTube, we don’t have to wonder anymore.

If you’re an enthusiast, definitely set aside 22 minutes and watch this video that shows Rick’s remaining collection that still includes more than 20 big block C2 Corvettes, a 1970 Chevelle SS with an LS6 engine, a 1969 Camaro Z/28 with a cross ram DZ302, and many more interesting vehicles!

“This is a driver’s garage,” Wade explains. “No trailer queens. He’s gonna have a mechanic and detail guy to keep them running so he can drive and enjoy these cars the way they’re meant to be.”

Kawasaki, in case you’re not aware, is president and chief executive officer of Legendary Companies, formerly Coker Group. He oversees Legendary’s 14 brands and six operating companies, including Coker Tire, Universal Vintage Tire Co., Phoenix Race Tires, Wheel Vintiques, Roadster Wire Wheels, MOR – Münchner Oldtimer Reifen and The Great Race.

[VIDEO] Here are the Cars that Rick Treworgy of Muscle Car City Museum Decided to Keep

You know you’re in for a treat when the very first vehicle discussed in the video is a 2019 Arctic White Corvette ZR1. Rick explains that he gave up a 2020 Stingray because he believes in the long run, the ZR1 will be the best investment. He’s only driven the ZR1 some 300 miles because he’s been busy building a new house for the past year but says that odometer should be changing in the coming months.

That’s just the first of so many nice Corvettes he kept, including row after row of 1967 427s “stacked up like cordwood,” as Wade put it.

[VIDEO] Here are the Cars that Rick Treworgy of Muscle Car City Museum Decided to Keep

Rick says he’s trying to collect a big block in every color, and while he hasn’t achieved that goal yet, he doesn’t intend to quit trying.

He points out a blue ’67 with white stinger hood as one of his favorites. “Some cars, they’re just right,” he says. “They feel like they did back in the day after they’re restored. That’s one of ‘em. I can’t make myself part with it.”

He also couldn’t part with a black ’66 Corvette, the first car he ever restored and then showed all over the Southeast for 10 years before driving it for another decade. “It still looks about as good as the day we did it.”

[VIDEO] Here are the Cars that Rick Treworgy of Muscle Car City Museum Decided to Keep

Another sentimental favorite is the only ’55 Chevy coupe remaining in his collection, as he points out a ‘55 was his first car and “whenever I go back to a hot rod, it’s always a ’55 Chevy.”

Other interesting vehicles include a purple Blazer turned into a short pickup, a 1912 Durand (a predecessor to Chevrolet), a ’61 Pontiac Ventura, a ’39 Chevy hot rod, a first-year 1935 Suburban, the last L88 Corvette made (a ’69), and a 1935 Cadillac restomod.

“I have a toy or two,” Rick jokes.

Those toys also include vintage ZR1 motors from the C4 era, and he believes they’ll be worth some money in the future when restoration of the 1990-95 ZR1s begins in earnest someday.

While the museum became a victim of COVID, Rick’s love of collector cars isn’t going anywhere. In fact, while he says there “probably” won’t ever be a museum again, he is planning to build two or three hot rods a year for sale at auction.

[VIDEOS] Manual Transmission? Let’s Breakdown that Recent C8 Corvette Z06 Prototype Sighting Once Again

[VIDEOS] Let's Breakdown that Recent C8 Corvette Z06 Prototype Sighting

Earlier this week we shared a video of a C8 Corvette Z06 prototype testing out in Sedona, Arizona. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is good this will be first your look. If you have seen it, watch it again and see what we missed the first time around. So focused on trying to hear the flat-plane crank V8, we missed seeing the other mules and the Porsche in the background.

There has also been some debate starting with the original poster of the video that this prototype may have a manual transmission. Although we disagree, the blip from the driver and the subsequent take-off has others talking manual transmissions again, including our friend Mike from the Brink of Speed YouTube channel.

Mike breaks down the recent sighting and shows you what we missed the first time around and I will let him make the case as to why he thinks the Z06 will have a manual transmission (spoiler alert: it won’t).

From Brink of Speed on YouTube:

BIG NEWS! It Looks like the C8 Corvette Z06 will HAVE a MANUAL Transmission! Today, I wanted to bring this big news about the C8 Z06 to your attention! Will you order a C8 Z06 Corvette if it comes in a manual transmission?

So now that you’ve seen this enhanced version of the prototype sighting and heard Mike’s argument about the Z06 getting a manual transmission, let’s hear your thoughts by leaving a comment below.

[VIDEO] Clueless Driver Roasts the Clutch of a C7 Corvette Z06 While Attempting a Burnout

[VIDEO] Clueless Driver Roasts the Clutch of a C7 Corvette Z06

We’ve seen this before where someone attempts a burnout and instead they end up causing serious damage to their clutch. It’s a hard thing to watch as there is all that smoke and noise, and yet the rear tires remain firmly planted to the pavement. You just want someone to tell the driver they are doing it wrong and put an end to the painful exercise.

We caught this video recently uploaded to YouTube featuring a Black C7 Corvette Z06 and we can imagine the driver telling the cameraman to “hold his beer” while making the burnout attempt. Instead of burning rubber, smoke from the roasted clutch is pouring out from the rear of the Corvette as well as through the engine compartment.

Burnouts in a manual transmission Corvette can be a tricky thing for some. Sure you have plenty of power with 650-horsepower on tap, but those Michelin pilot sport tires provide a sticky grip and unless you get them spinning, well, you can see what happens here:

[VIDEO] Corvette Exterior Design Manager Kirk Bennion Breaks Down the Key C8 Design Features

Corvette Exterior Design Manager Kirk Bennion Breaks Down the Key C8 Design Features

While the new mid-engine layout for the 2020 Corvette has done wonders for performance, it’s also made life better for the designers.

That’s the word from exterior design manager Kirk Bennion/A> in this interview with A.J. Waters of Business Insider.

“This is clearly the biggest change we’ve done within Corvette’s architecture,” Bennion explains in the video. “So it gives us an all-new proportion and an all-new vehicle. We’ve also taken the occupant from where they were in the previous generation and moved them forward 16 1/2 inches.”

In the interview, Bennion breaks down the design of the all-new eighth-generation Corvette, beginning with the fact that it all started out as a “wheel oriented” design.

“That means that when you look at the profile of the fenders,” he explains, “we’re basically, we’re drawing them right over the wheels. It’s almost like you’ve taken the wheels and pushed them up into the body.”

That results in muscular fenders and quarter panel, he says, and also allows the car to remain agile at high speeds by creating a low center of gravity.

After placing the wheels, the designers moved on to the rake of the car, or basically making the side of the car slope upwards at an angle from front to rear.

Corvette Exterior Design Manager Kirk Bennion Breaks Down Key C8 Design Features

“You’ll notice that the rear fascia has kind of gotten taller as the years progress,” Bennion says. “And that’s because within our aerodynamic package, the car wants to have a bit of a wedge to it.”

The resulting high deck lid helps alleviate turbulence or drag at the back of the car, but it also makes the rear end look tall and thick, not thin and sleek as Corvettes of earlier generations were.

“So, when we got into the back of the car, we created this lower rear fascia that’s always black,” Bennion says. “And that’s real important to make the car look lighter.”

That black strip along the bottom makes the rear end look thinner than reality and also draws most of the attention to the double-digit tail lamps on each side.

“Double-digit means that you’ll have two on either side,” Bennion says. “These are more impactful. You know, they’re just not a shape, but they’re, they have a lot of gesture, a lot of direction to them.”

That means, when you’re half a block away from the car, you immediately know this is the new 2020 Corvette, “just by the footprint of those tail lamps,” Bennion says.

As A.J. points out, the new mid-engine layout and aggressive detailing help the new Stingray look like an exotic supercar, but it still remains true to its long-time mission, he says, “guided by the same principles as every generation before it: an affordable sports car that refuses to compromise on performance and driving experience.”
