Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Convertible Was a Former Wedding Present

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Convertible Was a Former Wedding Present

This classic 1971 Corvette seems to thrive on festive occasions.

For example, about 15 years ago, newlyweds received this Stingray convertible as a wedding present. They drove it a few times but it wound up spending most of the time in storage.

Not surprisingly, they wound up selling it a couple of years ago to the current owner, who planned to restore it but instead bought a house in Florida and has no time for such projects.

Therefore, on Christmas Day 2021, someone else will become the new owner after a no-reserve auction on eBay comes to an end on Saturday.

So far, 43 bids have climbed to $19,200.

On the bright side, this Stingray still has its original 350 engine hooked to a four-speed manual transmission. The owner says it “ran excellent” when he parked it in the garage two years ago, but it will need a new battery after sitting so long. About half of the 21,801 Corvettes built that year came with air conditioning, and fortunately this is one of them.

He says the interior “is all there” and in “pretty good condition.” The frame is described as rust-free, and the body looks “very good with a few cracks here and there.” It’s covered with paint that’s old “but looks good for a driver.” The brakes work, the exhaust looks new, and the tires have “a lot of tread” but definitely need to be replaced due to being 20 years old.

“All in all,” the owner says, his classic ‘Vette is “an excellent car to bring back to its previous glory.” After all, he muses, “where do you find a #’s matching factory air 4spd convertible project these days?”

Check out this 1972 chrome bumper Corvette Stingray T-top coupe. It’s a survivor that’s just been brought back to life after being off the road for 10 years.

Now on sale on eBay at the “Buy It Now” price of $24,500, the car has undergone extensive mechanical updates to make it roadworthy again, including all new brakes, calipers/pads/hoses, points, a three-row aluminum radiator and hoses, power steering cylinder and hoses, master cylinder, tires, rally wheel trim rings, center caps, rubber floor mats, and battery.

Now the seller says this California car – back in “good mechanical condition” now – drives, steers, shifts and stops great and is a lot of fun to drive with its matching-numbers 350 engine and four-speed manual transmission.

There is still work to be done, however. For starters, the radio and tachometer are not functioning and the original windshield wiper door grill is missing though a green grill from a parts car is included. The original interior and carpet is said to be in very good condition with separation on a few seams of the bucket seats.

Likewise, while the Ontario Orange paint was resprayed in the ’70s and was recently professionally detailed, the seller admits it still has blemishes, scratches, paint loss, and fading. “It shines up,” he says, “but shows its age.”

Fortunately he describes the body and frame as “very straight, rust-free and solid.”

It all adds up to a vintage Stingray that could be enjoyed as-is or would also be a good candidate for a total restoration, the seller believes.

This or That: Two Highly Desirable 2018 Corvettes Offered at the Brian Wedding Auction

This or That: Two Highly Desirable 2018 Corvettes Offered at the Brian Wedding Auction

It’s been a long, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely tiiiime since we’ve asked our readers their favorite question; This or That? Back at the end of March, our last ToT post was a complete nail-biter! When the dust settled, it was the low-mile Commemorative Edition Z06 that came out victorious in our battle of 405-horse special edition Corvettes, with 54% of the vote.

As far as we are concerned, the auction of the entire Brian Wedding Collection is the big news of the week, and after clicking through all of the listings (a few times), a unique pairing stood out to your author. After building only 9,686 units for 2018, Chevrolet put a bow on its least productive model year since 1959. This rarity makes it a treat to stumble upon any example of America’s Sports Car from 2018, and Mr. Wedding found himself two particularly interesting specimens that make for a perfect ToT matchup.

Option 1: Grand Sport Carbon 65 Convertible

2018 Grand Sport Carbon 65 Convertible

Currently sitting at 1,112 miles and commanding an insanely attractive high bid of $4,200 is an exclusive Carbon 65 Corvette. To celebrate the 65th Anniversary of their halo car, Chevrolet created the Carbon 65 package. It brought the new-for-2018 Ceramic Matrix Gray paint, all of the carbon fiber bits in the C7’s repertoire, blue accents, a fully-decked out 3LZ/3LT interior package, distinctive graphics, and an individually numbered plaque (this is #107) to 650 Z06 and Grand Sport coupes and convertibles for an extra $15,000. When you look at the entire build-out, the most popular choice was the Z06 coupe, which accounted for 281 units. Hot on its heels was the Grand Sport coupe at 262. The drop-top Z was a distant third with 72 takers, and this no-reserve gem is one of just 35 Carbon 65 GS convertibles ever built (that each came with a stunning blue top!)! As all C65s came loaded to the gills, original Carbon 65 owners didn’t have many option boxes to scratch their head over besides which model and body-style they wanted. Their main choices boiled down to; 1. which transmission they wanted, and 2. Stock brakes vs. up-fitted J57 carbon-ceramic stoppers or the even more hard-core, ultra-track-focused Z07 package. Wedding opted to keep the standard brake rotors and also went with the quick-shifting 8-speed automatic, which puts this car into an eeven more exclusive club with just 27 members!

Option 2: 2018 Corvette Z06

2018 Corvette Z06

Special editions like the Carbon 65 are one way to ensure the rarity and future desirability of your four-wheeled baby, but for a creative and motivated buyer, you can always make something rarer by digging deep in the order guide. Brian Wedding did just that with the addition of a second 2018 Corvette to his collection. Since he already had serialized 460-HP “goldilocks” of the lineup on order, he decided to also put his name on top of the ’18 food chain by putting a supercharged monster in his garage. There is almost nothing mainstream about his Z06 build that was driven almost five times as much as his Carbon 65, to the tune of 5,252 miles. He started with a base of Watkins Glen Gray (the fourth most popular color, with 1,115 total orders) and the 8-speed gearbox (one of 1,665 Zs that were similarly configured). From there, things get interesting! He selected the least-popular interior package with the base 1LZ trim, making this one of just 527 Z06 Coupes like it. Next, he went double black with his wheel and brake caliper selections, putting this car in a company of 395 and 220, respectively. Then “Level 2” aero was added, which includes either CFZ carbon fiber ground effects or CFV visible carbon fiber ground effects. This is a rare addition to a 1LZ car that we can’t make out in the pictures, but it would put this Z in a group of either 427 or 663 other cars. And, finally, the pièce de resistance of Wedding’s build, a little-known RPO that was probably the first thing you noticed about this car. When ordering, it went by code DTQ, but in Corvette language, they are called full-length racing stripes, and this car is one of five Z06s and eight overall 2018 Corvettes to have them applied in Inferno Orange, making this one of the rarest C7s in existence!

So, now comes the moment of truth, Corvette Nation. Which one would you focus your last-minute bidding on at 10:00 AM Central on Saturday, the 26th? Does the known commodity of the Carbon 65 GS tickle your fancy, or are you the type who wants to roll the dice on a one-of-five Z06? Let us know by participating in our poll below, and then head over to the Proxibid.com auction site to score one of these beauties for real!

No Reserve Pandem Widebody C8 Corvette Could Be Yours at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

No Reserve Pandem Widebody C8 Corvette Could Be Yours at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

It’s no secret that the 8th generation Corvette has become one of the most sought-after cars on the planet today. Immediately after its launch last year, the aftermarket industry began doing its thing. One of the builders we’ve been following closely is Pandem with their bold widebody kit. We first caught wind of Pandem back in September when their renders hit Instagram. Then a couple months later, the real thing was revealed looking like the automotive love child of a stealth fighter and Darth Vader.

If you like your cars modded and have also been in the market for C8, here’s a chance to take out 2 birds with one stone with this Pandem widebody 2020 Corvette rolling through Barrett-Jackson at no reserve later this month. Lot #1090 is finished in Torch Red (looks orange in the photos) and was born as a 3LT Z51 with magnetic ride GT2 seats. It’s now sporting the aforementioned body kit along with a custom leather wrapped red and black interior. Like the black car, this red one also wears that unmistakable monster spoiler out back. Elsewhere we see 20-inch front and 21-inch rear Alpha One carbon-fiber wheels which are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires. The listing states that there’s just 700 miles on the odometer.

Power comes from the 6.2L LT2 which has been treated to a “mild tune”. Spent gasses exit out back through C8 Valvetronic Maxflo exhaust. Carbon fiber tips complete the exhaust’s custom look.

Inside, all the C8 Stingray’s creature comforts remain. The list of features includes the 14-speaker Bose stereo, NAV, HUD, front end lift, HD front camera, heated and vented seats, and the all-important wireless charging dock.

We know that the Pandem widebody kit isn’t for everyone. Still, this will make for a very interesting sale to watch given that this very likely the first heavily modded C8 to be offered at public auction. We already know that nearly new 3LT C8’s will command right around $100,000 in stock form. It’ll be interesting to see what the widebody kit and other mods do to the final hammer price.

Barrett-Jackson’s rescheduled 2021 Scottsdale auction takes place March 20th – 27th at Westworld in Scottsdale Arizona. Keep it tuned here as the dates draw nearer as we’ll continue to preview some of the prime Corvettes heading for the big stage in Scottsdale.
